چکیده

e would like to thank Dr. Zheng-cai Lou for valuable and recise comments on our article.1 Firstly, the main outomes of type 1 pediatric tympanoplasty are the graft uccess rates and postoperative hearing outcomes. Our esults indicate that the graft success rate was 92.1% f the cartilage group compared with 65.0% of the temoral fascia group, respectively. In the fascia group, reoperative ABG was 33.68 ± 11.44 dB and postoperative BG was 24.25 ± 12.68 dB. In cartilage group, preoperaive ABG was 35.68 ± 12.94 dB and postoperative ABG was 6.113 ± 12.87 dB. The anatomical success rate of cartilage roup was significantly better than fascia group (p < 0.01). here was no significant difference among functional outomes between fascia and cartilage groups (p > 0.05). The hickness of tragal cartilage was accurately measured by a icrometer and recorded intraoperatively. A regular whole-

Type 1 pediatric tympanoplasties using fascia and cartilage grafts.

Here, we present a review of the article entitled ‘‘Comparison of temporalis fascia muscle and full-thickness cartilage grafts in type 1 pediatric tympanoplasties’’ by Yegin et al.1 The work described in their paper was interesting. Cartilage grafts improved the long-term success rate of tympanoplasties versus temporalis fascia grafts in tympanoplasties due to Eustachian tube dysfunction in chi...

Comparison of temporalis fascia muscle and full-thickness cartilage grafts in type 1 pediatric tympanoplasties.

INTRODUCTION Various graft materials have been used to close tympanic membrane perforations. In the literature, there are few studies in pediatric populations comparing different graft materials. To our knowledge, there is no reported study that measured the thickness of the tragal cartilage in pediatric tympanoplasties. The tragal cartilage is not of uniform thickness in every patient. OBJEC...

Comparison of Temporalis Fascia and Full-Thickness Cartilage Palisades in Type-I Underlay Tympanoplasty for Large/Subtotal Perforations

Introduction: To demonstrate surgical techniques and to compare the anatomical and functional outcomes between temporalis fascia and cartilage palisade grafting in type-I underlay tympanoplasty in patients with large/subtotal perforation.Materials and Methods:Temporalis fascia and cartilage palisade grafting were conducted in Group A and Group B, respectively, each containing 30 patients with l...

A Short-term Comparison Between Result of Palisade Cartilage Tympanoplasty and Temporalis Fascia Technique

Introduction: The use of cartilage as a grafting material has been advocated in cases where there is a high risk of graft failure, such as subtotal perforations, adhesive processes, and residual defects after primary tympanoplasties. The purpose of this study was to compare the graft acceptance rates and auditory outcomes of cartilage tympanoplasty operations using a palisade technique with tho...

[Comparison between tympanoplasties with cartilage-perichondrium composite graft and temporal fascia graft in terms of hearing levels and healing].

OBJECTIVES We compared the extent of healing and hearing improvement following tympanoplasties performed with the use of cartilage-perichondrium composite grafts and temporalis muscle fascia grafts. PATIENTS AND METHODS Fifty consecutive patients (22 males, 28 females; mean age 30+/-14 years; range 11 to 63 years) with chronic otitis media were divided into two groups to receive cartilage-per...
